Comrades:

I have just finished reading your new pamphlet on “Party-Building.” It is a thoughtful work containing many valuable insights and it reflects a good spirit of struggle in relation to the real questions now before our movement. I have one or two minor criticisms, but these are relatively unimportant are probably more in the nature of careless formulations than anything else; i.e. p.5 “Theory is not developed spontaneously” should be Marxist-Leninist theory is not etc.

Most interesting, of course, is that your pamphlet obviously was written before the recent exchange of views between PWOC and ourselves in the pages of the Guardian, an exchange which you quite correctly anticipated in terms of several of the theoretical arguments.

There will be other opportunities to discuss this. For the moment, I am writing to ask you to send us 20 copies of the pamphlet so that we can circulate them among the Guardian staff. Perhaps in lieu of payment we can offer you a free ad in the Guardian to promote the pamphlet.

I think your pamphlet will be a useful supplement to the Guardian staff’s own discussions around party-building.

Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you again.

Solidarity,
Irwin Silber
