Racism in the PWOC

CONCLUSION

We hope that this analysis of racism in the organization has convinced every PWOC member that we are confronted with a most serious problem. We believe that the discussions in our cells and at the Convention can lead to an important advance in the organizations consolidation around this question and that this can represent an important advance for the PWOC’s commitment to class unity.

Still, it is essential that we all remain mindful of the fact that this is only the very initial stage of a protracted struggle against racism within the PWOC. Racism is not something that just goes away. There will be constant pressures from the influence of the bourgeoisie, from within our class, and from the introduction of new members into the organization which will work to test our resolve and our commitment to the fight for multinational unity.

The intensification of the ideological struggle against racism, which we are calling for as the main thrust of a rectification campaign is not something we intend to call off after a three or six month period. The necessity of sharp ideological struggle against racism is a statement of an attitude toward white chauvinism that must now become a tradition, a habit, in the internal life and workings of our organization.

The OC also believes that the following additional steps should be taken to systemmatize our work in the struggle against racism.

1) All applicants for candidate membership will be required to read and discuss this document along with a package of self-criticisms for racism prior to their being accepted as candidate members.

2) All white applicants for full membership will be required to read and discuss a list of writings on racism being prepared by the anti-racist task force, prior to their admission as full members.

3) All criticisms around racism are to be put into writing and sent immediately to the OC so that this campaign against racism in the PWOC can be reviewed and overseen by our Executive bodies.
