Notes of the Quarter

& A Note of Protest!

From International Socialism (1st series), No.3, Winter 1960/61, p.5.
Thanks to Ted Crawford & the late Will Fancy.
Transcribed & marked up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.

Socialists have a duty to protest against every form of social oppression engendered by class division wheresoever. This duty is the more pointed when such oppression is aimed at fellow-socialists acting on their belief in the unity of the international struggle against oppression.

We hope readers of this journal will join us in protesting to the French Government for condoning – if not more – the activities of fascist bands like the Red Hand in their course of political assassination and intimidation and, in particular, their vicious attacks on the signatories of, and propagandists for the Manifesto of the 121 (see Jean-Jacques Marie’s article on this issue).

We hope they will join too in protesting to the Dutch government for arresting – on a pretext – Sal Santen and Michel Raptis (Pablo) for obeying the first principle of humanitarianism and international socialism in helping the Algerian people fight the horrors of French colonial oppression.
