Transcribed & marked up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.
Apologies, apologies. Hal Draper points out that we completely reversed the meaning of one of his paragraphs in our last issue. The para in question (last column, last page of his article) should read:
‘It is rarely pointed out that Robert Michels formulated his notorious “Iron Law of Oligarchy” not from the experience of revolutionary movements but largely from the bureaucratization of the German social-democracy and its trade unions ...’
We omitted the words ‘experience of ... largely from the’.
But also from the US – praise. Last Summer’s Young Socialist Review has just come into our hands. Its Guide to the World Socialist Press in a remarkably shrewd, learned and generally praiseworthy judgement states that International Socialism is ‘the best socialist theoretical magazine being published in the English language, and certainly the finest in appearance’. With that sort of backing we have had the temerity to bump up our print order by 25 percent.
