There Are No Aryans – The Racial Theory Exposed by R. Page Arnot. (Labour Monthly, 6d.)
One of the most pernicious features of the Nazi propaganda is racialism, the idea of the superior race. This racialism is expressed not only against the Jews, but has been shown particularly against the people of African and Asiatic descent. It was pronounced at the Olympic Sports held in Berlin in 1936, when they refused to recognise the victory of an American negro who had won a series of important races.
We must fight all expressions of racialism wherever they appear. They are dangerous signs and harbingers of Fascism.
Examples of this have shown themselves in this country (the obvious Fascist expressions in the East End and other parts of London, with anti-semitic slogans: Mr. and Mrs. Leary Constantine and their daughter asked to leave the Imperial Hotel on account of their colour). This studied insult came as a shock to many people. It is clear that public opinion must be roused to the dangers of such reprehensible actions.
A study of the racial theory is essential, and the very valuable and well-written pamphlet by R. Page Arnot, There Are No Aryans – The Racial Theory Exposed, published in Labour Monthly, price 6d., is just the weapon ,to help in combating the development of race hatred in this country.
Mr. Arnot concludes this valuable pamphlet with a serious warning.
“It is not enough to penetrate the fallacies of Nazi “race-theory” unless this is applied to the rooting out of prejudices that are widespread in this country against particular groups, as can be measured by the all-too-frequent use of and contemptuous terms as “nigger” or “dago” or “yith” Especially in the case of Jews is this prejudice dangerous to the cause of democracy..... For the racial theory as one of Hitler’s weapons is not limited in its use to the occupied countries of Europe. It is a weapon used extensively in this country and in the U.S.A. Therefore, there is no sincere and consistent fight for democracy against Fascism unless it also takes the shape of a fight within this country against racialism or race exclusiveness.”
